(The following example will not make much sense unless viewed in
a "monospace" typeface such as Courier.)

When I used KWIC the output looked like this:

a last a loved a long the riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve

PAST EVE AND ADAM'S, FROM SWERVE A LAST A LOVED A LONG THE RIVERRUN,
ADAM'S, FROM SWERVE A LAST A LOVED A LONG THE RIVERRUN, PAST EVE AND

A LONG THE RIVERRUN, PAST EVE AND ADAM'S, FROM SWERVE A LAST A LOVED

LOVED A LONG THE RIVERRUN, PAST EVE AND ADAM'S, FROM SWERVE A LAST A

It was all caps, of course, (we're talking IBM punch cards here!) and
the text was wrapped so that the context showed on *both* sides of the
alphabetized key words. I do not remember whether articles,
prepositions, etc. were omitted.
