I'm curious how many of you do technical writing and something else in
your job. In the job before my current one, I was a technical
writer/release engineer. In addition to writing documentation,
including feature specifications, I would run the build and code the
installers. I'm hoping someday to find a job that will allow me to be
a "technical writer/programmer."

I was the lone media specialist/technical writer/web designer at my last company. This meant I was responsible for shooting, manipulating and archiving the company's product images, writing most of the technical manuals and product data sheets (and editing/formatting the ones I didn't write), website design and maintenance, and cleaning up the coffee room once every couple of weeks or so. It was a pretty good load, but it was fun because of the variety. I'm contracting now which offers a variety of work, without the revenue security.
