This topic has been discussed many times on the techwr-l list over the
years. Master Documents has been broken since Word 2.0 or so, and only a
handful of people in the world have ever made it work (such as Steve Hudson,
the Word Heretic).

The best answer when working with large documents is to not use Word. The
quickest solution would be to break the document into smaller documents.
