I'd try save-as-html and then attempt to clean that up.

I'd use tools like Unix sed(1) and/or de-moroniser

but you need to stick with whatever you know. Wordpad?

Another possibility is to try different tools if you can lay hands
on them quickly. Things like Open Office and Word Perfect can
read Word files. Do you know them? Can they read this mess?
Does Frame read Word files? Is there another computer you
can try Word on?
