"Whilst" doesn't raise an eyebrow in England - even amongst (!) the most brow-beaten. People say it and write it without any motive to "dress-up" their communication.
Well it certainly raises mine, and *most* of my colleagues agree. I wonder if there is a regional divide going on here?
