Well, if all your users are doing are looking at the web
page from desktop machines with full-size monitors, then
it doesn't really matter whether you use fluid design or 
fixed, I suppose. But can you be sure that's all your users
are doing?

I, for one, really like to save web pages onto my PDA to
read on the go - particularly for longer articles - and a
page with fixed line spacing does not work at all on a PDA
screen. Fluid design allows the page to reflow int my 2" x
3" browser page quite nicely.
