MS Word hidden text in PDF output

Whirlers,

Having had no success with Adobe's documentation or their Web site, or 
Google, to find the resolution to what should be a simple problem, I turn 
to my professional colleagues. 

We generate .pdf files from MS Word documents using Adobe's Distiller. 
When I launch Distiller, it is making the hidden text (e.g., index 
markers) in my Word document visible.  Has anyone else encountered this 
behavior?  I'm assuming that I've accidentally changed a property in 
Distiller, but I have yet to figure out which one.  It's also been 
suggested that it might be a Word property, although given that it happens 
with Distiller kicks off, I doubt that is the case.

I'd appreciate any help with this problem.
