I'm okay with "technologies" as a word. IMHO it's simply the plural form of
"technology" (as "companies" is the plural form of "company").

Someone posted a link several weeks ago to a BBC article called "Why
technology misses the masses" and I happen to have the article in front of
me. A few paragraphs down there is the quote "We spoke to 6,000 people and
found that young males are embracing new technologies much faster than women
and the over-45s".
