The _best_ approach is the one that works for you! We have individual
learning styles, and what works for me may not work for you. Do you learn
best from reading about something in a book, or by walking through the
process? 

It also depends on your goal. Do you prefer to truly understand what's
happening under the covers, or do you just want to turn out some reasonably
well-designed pages? The DW tutorial can teach you _how_, but to better
understand the _why_, you may want to learn more about the actual code.

I started years ago hand-coding HTML into Notepad. I much prefer DW now, but
the hand-coding taught me the basics and allows me to spot problems. That's
what worked for _me_.
