Re: InDesign not a Frame substitute

Several of us this month met with the Frame product manager and offered our insights to the next full iteration of Frame. More developers have been added to the Frame development team now that Adobe has moved its intense focus off the push of PDF (90% of Adobe's energy and resources in the past few years were assigned to PDF issues, resulting in less focus on other products, including Frame). Adding developers speaks volumes. Frame must move to a new platform to integrate an Adobe look and operation; it is built on an old code base. We will probably see a Frame point upgrade, but then see an overhaul. InDesign is not even a competitor in the same market as Frame, as InDesign stands now.

Frame must improve its XML round-tripping and they are well aware of that. The window of opportunity for Frame overhaul is now. Content management systems and XML editors are on the scene and have been adopted by many, including organizations at which I participate. Frame has the power that we are used to using; let's ensure that our collective voice is heard by Adobe Frame PMs. We have kept it alive. But, it has the potential for much more Adobe revenue-producing opportunities, which is what it needs to continue and evolve.
