The headers and footers for the sections inserted by the {Index} field

updated, it should display a message: "You incorrectly set these to bla,
bla, bla. Shall Word reset them to bla, bla, bla?"

Word isn't really resetting them; it's replacing them. Changing them by hand is like editing the compiled index itself--you wouldn't do that, because you can be sure your edits will be lost as soon as you update the index. It's just the nature of the thing.

Think of those section breaks as autotext. They are what they are. If you don't want to be Same as Previous, you'll have to change them every time.

Again, though, I can't think of any reason to have those sections' headers and footers be anything *but* Same as Previous; just doesn't make sense to me.

Anyway, thanks for confirming what I thought you were describing earlier.
