Chicago Manual of Style

I can't imaging looking up something in that beast without the paragraph
numbering. However, I can't imagine having to number the paragraphs in
the Configuration Guide I am writing now. It would be overkill, and
probably annoying. (Either that, or my imagination is shot.)

So, if I were to create an industry standard about numbering paragraphs
(or topics or whatever), it would be "do it where it makes sense and is
helpful, don't where it does not."

Whew. It is not easy being a standards maker. I need a coffee break. I
will leave it up to someone else to figure out an industry standard for
numbering my standards.
