I am a little late getting to this thread, but I am fascinated that
the text on their site has changed. The paragraph that read:

For freelancers, there are few costs. You need access to a typewriter
or word processor and a phone. A fax machine or fax bureau is also
useful. And that's really all you need. Some technical writers rarely
even see clients - the work comes in the post! Virtually every penny
you earn is profit. (Found searching for site in Google, then viewing
cached version)
http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:oODr7D0JqGoJ:www.inst.org/tech/tec_bro.htm+%22construction+product+companies+need+technical+authors%22&hl=en&lr=&strip=1

Now reads:

For freelancers, there are few costs. You need a computer and a phone.
A fax machine or fax bureau is also useful. And that's really all you
need. Some technical writers rarely even see clients - the work comes
in the post! Virtually every penny you earn is profit.

Do you think that the owners of this site are lurking on the Techwr-L
list and made the change because of this thread?? Funny, isn't it!
