The simple answer is: Yes, absolutely.

The more complex answer is actually questions: Which field are you
interested in? Which audience do you want to communicate to?

I find it unfortunate, if not deplorable, that the only technology course
offered by your program is one in C++. And, I can only speculate that your
usability courses were also computer centric. But that seems to be a
failure of many technical writing courses. My own university (where I
earned a B.Eng. in mechanical engineering) offers a TW certificate program
that is entirely computer focused. Despite strong business and engineering
departments.

To be a better investment for a company than another writer, you need
industry specific knowledge. Varying degrees of technology, user, design,
regulatory and other knowledge will position you at an advantage for
various niches and specialised areas. Or, advanced knowledge in
delivery/creation of deliverables can be used as leverage in securing
employment.
