Raymond,
Also consider developing and delivering training--if
that interests you. The development cycles for tech
writing and instructional design are very similar.
As someone else wrote, with your experience, you may
have the inside track and be able to earn a higher
salary or charge higher rates.
Also, look into rates for your area, and consider
working remotely if you decide to consult.
Target the airlines, even those either on the verge or
in bankruptcy. If they're flying, they need
documentation and training. Same applies if they're
reorganizing or revamping their staff. Also, you're
aware of the airline support services--target those as
well.
Also, consider what others have written about asking
yourself why this field attracts you.
Good luck!
Renee Moore
