TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Well, let's face facts. There are a lot of tech writers with some sort
of inferiority complex about their status in their companies. Some of
them come by it honestly (by having worked at certain companies
that many of us know but shouldn't identify by name here); others I
don't know about. That's why I said previously that I would argue
against converting salaried writers to hourly unless it was clear to me
that the conversion would result in them getting more money. But
from a purely selfish viewpoint, I would still rather not have hourly
writers, because keeping track of all those #$%^ timesheets is a
pain.
