At a previous gig (B&N.com), it got to the point that when a new
person came into the IT group, I would give that person the 30,000
foot overview of the whole part of the company system since I was the
only one who seemed to know it system-wide rather than from the
perspective of a specific system.

The most unnerving presentation I made was when they hired a new VP
of Software Development, a position to whom everyone except the CIO
reported to, including my boss and his boss.
