MadCap Software (http://www.madcapsoftware) is a new startup, primarily
composed of former Macromedia (eHelp) developers and employees who worked
with RoboHelp/RoboHTML. I believe the company was started in early March and
their flagship product, MadCap Flare, was announced at the WritersUA
conference on March 21. They're planning on going to beta later this year.

So, to answer your question...it's been promised for about a month.

My cynicism comes from folks deciding now...before there's even a full demo
or anything more than a marketing blurb...to move to Flare. I just think
that folks should wait to actually see if the tool does what they need
before planning a move. (While Flare could be everything that the marketing
says it will be, this still doesn't mean that it will meet specific needs.)

And I react when someone says that Flare's release is "impending"...I don't
consider a tool that hasn't even gone to Alpha (much less Beta) to be
something that my clients can plan on within the next six months, and
"impending" implies it will be available soon.
