Hi,

Regarding your poll question, I usually find myself facing Option C: My
company does not pay for it, so I do not go. In fact, I had a very hard
time just getting last year's STC membership paid for, even though
professional dues are reimbursed - usually.

I find membership to professional organizations to be extremely
beneficial and would greatly enjoy attending such conferences. I've
learned much about this industry from reading the trade journals and
lurking on this list, but learned much more when I tried applying what
I'd read to my job role. Sometimes, things transferred easily and quite
beautifully - my bosses were impressed and I was happy. Other times,
lots of reengineering was required to make something "fit," but the
benefits were worth that effort. I can't even imagine the bounty to be
found at an actual conference!
