If a serial number might be important to the customer at any time during
the device's lifetime, then it should always be available and legible.

To change the iPod's battery, you have to open the case. Why not print
the serial number on the *inside* of the case? That way, the precious
designers won't have to muck up their precious design with all those
nasty numbers.
