Anyway, I hunted down a PDF copy of Adobe's line-breaking patent today.
Quite interesting reading indeed.

Adobe's algorithm differs from the Knuth-Plass algorithm in that the
former looks at the whole paragraph while the latter merely looks at
portions of the paragraph (these "portions" being defined in the patent
text). Adobe's argument in their patent is that an algorithm that looks
at the whole paragraph requires much more memory space and processing
time.

Which makes sense ofcourse, but it was interesting to read the whole
patent and and their discussion about the theory.
