What's your level of risk aversion for losing either of these jobs? My
first instinct would be to show up at the new gig, do a great job, and
by the time your old manager notices you, you'll be too entrenched to
bother getting rid of. That's take skill, luck, and some moxie on your
part. I'd do it in a minute. Actually, I have done it.

It may come down to what HR has in its database about you. Once they
punch in your name, they should know the deal. Did you quit, or were
you fired? HR usually nmaintains an exit status for employees that
indicates whether they would be acceptable for rehire or not. Maybe you
were checked against HR and hired anyway - in that case, you're golden.
Or maybe you weren't checked against HR - sometimes contractor
procurement is kinda loosey-goosey. What do you think?

And no, I don't think one is ethically obliged to add a 4-week job to
one's resume.
