John:
# Hi, guys...has anyone ever successfuly placed a link from their
# document to a file in Visual Source Safe that they were able to
# retain through document, PDf, and online?
Since the files aren't stored as "documents" in the VSS database you'd have
to write a script to
- set the working folder
- get or check-out the files
- and so on
and then call the script from your document.
I wouldn't do that. If I had to provide my users with the most recent
version of the linked files I'd set up - as VSS administrator - an "overview
folder" (don't know the English term for "Überblicksordner") for the appr.
VSS project. VSS will write a copy of each project file in this "overview
folder" every time this file changed (= was checked in).
Using this kind of setup you could simply link to the file copies in the
"overview folder" w/o the need to give readers access to the VSS database.
Cheers,
Franz-Josef
