>From your description, editing five sentences should be done in no
more than five minutes. Fifteen minutes, in my view, is too long to be
particularly helpful. These sorts of errors are not something one
should need to agonize over--you either know the difference or you
don't, and if you know the difference correcting them is the matter of
a few moments each.
Apostrophe misuse and misuse of cognates are epidemic these days, I'm
afraid. Even among self-styled "writers" or "journalists" there are a
multitude of excuses for not having the basic knowledge of grammar and
spelling.
I agree fully, though, that there is no particular reason not to
disclose in advance that a brief editing test may be given. Since an
interview is a somewhat artificial situation that entails more stress
than day-to-day work does, removing the surprise element is by no
means an impediment to achieving your objectives.
