All,

I know this was discussed a little bit yesterday, but here's my
situation:

Created User Guide in MS Word 2002 - 200 pages, 50+ GIFs, many internal
bookmarks and hyperlinks
Formerly used RoboPDF 3.1 to create PDF to include bookmarks,
hyperlinks, etc. -- worked like a champ, under 5 minutes, decent screen
quality (what we need)
Got Acrobat 7; to do the same thing, it take 40+ minutes and consumes
all the memory on the machine (even one with a huge amount of
memory)...I guess it's Word that's doing that. Note that we have to turn
ON the tagging option to get the hyperlinks -- that's what slows it down
so much.
The quality is not noticably better.

Notes:
RoboPDF won't work on a machine with Acrobat; we've installed everything
every which way and in every possible order.
RoboPDF stopped working suddenly on a machine without Acrobat; has to do
with the user profile; works when the user logs in using a different
profile.
Adobe is no help; claim it's our document, not their software, although
they're still researching it and have the document in question to look
at.

We're still working out what to do...go back to RoboPDF although the
profile issue is a concern; deal with the long conversion time and it's
got to be monitored because of MS Word "insufficient memory" errors that
pop up during the process; accept that I can't do anything else while
the conversion is ongoing...

Any thoughts/suggestions/questions are welcome. I've been fighting this
particular battle for some time.

Thanks.
Sue McKinney
