Are there any indicators that a prospective employee can use to gauge a startup's chances of giving him a payoff like you enjoyed?
Yes. You can apply the following indicators:
1. Are your house and car paid for and in good repair?
2. Have you taken a vacation in the last three years that included time in a casino?
3. If you lost over $1,000 in the casino, did you shrug and figure it was a cheap vacation?
If the answer to all three questions is Yes, the odds are in your favor that you'll survive the startup and profit from the experience, whether the startup survives and profits or not.
