I'd also add that you should work with closely with whoever is going to
print your manuals to ensure the best possible reproduction of your
photos. For example, if you're getting them laser printed externally and
are supplying them with PDFs, using their printer drivers can help
increase the quality of the result. Alternatively, they may be able to
suggest particular settings that work best for their printers.
