When I started at my current position a couple of years ago, none of the
previous documentation had any screenshots of any kind. I was asked to
implement them into the current documentation at the time as well as new
documentation.
Well now, I am starting to revise some of my procedures to be sans
screenshots. I do make a reference to the documentation with the visual
aids if the technician should need a visual aid.
The main reason for implementing screenshots was that there are a number
of procedures that are not performed on a regular basis -- or procedures
that change like the weather in Montana.
I guess where I am going is that there is a time and place for
screenshots. I noticed that some of the new employees really benefited
from them and to a certain degree the employees that were in place.
I should point out that I do use a fair amount of screen shots, but for
the most part I think a majority of them lean more towards call out
boxes. Still, as I stated... I am now providing more dirt and less
fertilizer to some of the older documentation.
