A 'tech writer' being tested about how to make a 'peanut butter and jelly
sandwich' were to be assigned to write about any 'process' it would be useful
to know if they took into account what 'problems' would occur.
Consider the 'steps' in the process that could have unexpected events if the
process ware related to a heart surgery, installation of an artificial limb,
or how to review a document..
In the mid-sixties I sat in a class of 'technical instructors' who were
presenting (1) a process in explaining how to polish shoes and (2) how to play
blackjack.
Just because you know how to do something, could you pass the same test of
'how to make a 'peanut butter and jelly' sandwich?
1) How many distinct steps are involved?
2) Did you leave something out?
3) Can you draw a process flow for the instructions?
4) How many times would you have to 'insert'/'relocate' a step?
5) Are you testing the ability to 'write'?
6) Is the person being 'tested on the process of defining a problem, and
writing about it?
