I misunderstood the NYT article to say that local Google desktop searches
send queries to the Internet. *Obviously*, any user-initiated Web search
sends a query to the Internet! But as Tom Galloway pointed out on TECHWR-L a
few hours ago, local Google desktop searches *don't* send a query to the
Internet unless you specifically request it.

My only objection, then, is the automatic update feature.
