Well, on the one hand, I have heard, from several sources, that giving
gifts "up the ladder" is inappropriate. On the other hand remember that
all generalizations are wrong <G>. I have actually been involved with
several instances of employees giving gifts to the boss -- although in
all cases, it was a COLLECTIVE gift. Everyone in the department chipped
in and the gift was from the department as a whole. That might be okay.
BTw, one of the instances was at my FORMER job, where the boss -- like
that anonymous poster's boss -- made a religion out of yelling and
screaming (literally) at the folks in the department all the time.
Well, upon receiving our departmental gift, she sent around this
ultra-sappy note about what wonderful people we all were. Somebody
remarked that "The next time she starts yelling at us, we can say, 'But
we're such wonderful people.'"

Just curious. What are your thoughts on giving your boss a gift this
time of year. Do you give gifts or do you think its too "suck-upy".
Managers, how do you feel recieving gifts. Do you think its a bribe, or
just a pleasant thought? Also, what kind of gifts have you given in the
past (blatant fishing for gift ideas).
Happy Holidays :^)~
