I know it may not meet your need, but if you are
pasting to a single cell, double clicking on the cell,
or hitting F2, allows you to edit the cell contents.

Pasting while in this mode is almost equivalent to
pasting plain text. It does retain line breaks, which
can be a good thing, sometimes.

It does strip off any text formatting, retaining the
formatting of the cell itself.
