Hi Lisa,

Firstly, I would say it entirely depends on your interest. Would you
like to do technical writing or creative writing (mind you creativity is
also sometimes involved in technical writing - so you can't actually
skip it all).

In creative writing-- newsletters, brochures, pamphlets, articles etc.
Jobs could be as a journalist, copyeditors, business documentation
specialists and so on.

If technical writing-- User manuals, software installation guide,
administrator's guide, courseware, etc. You can get into software/
mechanical /pharmacy or any other industries as technical writers,
instructional designers (some creativity involved here), etc.

You said you have knowledge and skill in producing, designing and
editing business documents, such as manuals, guides, brochures and
newsletters. That's pretty good enough to start off as an entry level
technical writer. But just as others said, you have to learn some
computing skills, and some tools like MS Word, Robohelp etc., which are
pretty easy to learn.

Let me tell you one thing, there are many who have chosen to be
technical writers who even didn't know much of technical writing in the
beginning and now are doing pretty well.

So make up your mind and plunge into a career that interests you.

All the best.
