Does anyone know of good "flow chart style guide"
manuals or books on the subject, particularly
regarding line flow and layout advice?
I am *not* looking for advice about when to use
diamonds, when to use squares, when lines with arrows
has text, etc. We already *have* the basic vocabulary
of the visual language for those.
I want to draw from any other people's experience on
the subject in part because I need to TEACH other
people how to do it -- a style guide of sorts.
I am not sure what I'm looking for exactly for advice,
but I'd like to know WHAT is out there already and I
haven't seen many flow chart design cross my path so
far. If there is anything wise about LAYOUT and FLOW
design, I'd like to check it out to see if anything is
worth learning from / expanding on.
I'm particularly interested in any writings in the
human interface / user interface / man machine
interface realm. This could include web experience
navigation / information architecture, although this
is a software project not a web project. However, it
is complex software with a bunch of "decision points".
FYI: the project is all in Visio, but even with nice
Visio layout features, there are a million ways of
laying the arrows out, merging 5 different arrows
together, where to put arrowheads in tricky flow /
merging situations, etc. We have already proven that
everyone has their own "Style" even in Visio for these
situations -- with a very different look -- and it's
my job to define The Style We Will Use.
Any advice / resources on the subject I should read
before writing my style guide?
Thanks in advance!
Jon
