Re: Writing tests for Peoplesoft contract position?
Personally I like to have the opportunity to be mentally prepared for a test
by knowing roughly what sort of thing it covers (tool stuff? writing style?
grammar/spelling etc.).
I go into interviews "mentally prepared" for just about anything.
Rarely have I been asked about my writing skills at an interview. Only once have I been asked to take a brief writing test (I forget whether I knew that going in, but I got the job). More often I'm being interviewed by project manager and engineers who have no clue about how to write, never mind how to write technical documentation, and so I don't even get questions about those subjects.
Writing tests at interviews? I say: Bring it on! Don't even tell me in advance. Don't even say what it covers. I'm good at all of it. (Otherwise, I wouldn't be interviewing.) Sure, you can see plenty of good work in my samples, but I'll write you something good right now. I'll show you right now how good I am.
