It's all comes down to who you're writing for and whether or not the
screenshots etc will actually benefit the user. I've written s/w docs
with not a screenshot in sight because I knew the intended user wouldn't
need them. I've also written graphic heavy docs where they were felt to
be essential. Sometimes a screenshot serves no other purpose than to
re-assure users that they're on the right screen and entered the right
data.
