Subject:Looking for indexing articles, white papers? From:Geoff Hart <ghart -at- videotron -dot- ca> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- techwr-l -dot- com> Date:Fri, 12 Nov 2004 09:06:00 -0500
Scott Abel wondered: <<I am looking for indexing tips and tricks and
wonder if anyone knows of any articles or white papers about indexing
to which you'd be willing to point me?>>
There are many good books on indexing, and one or more should be
available in any good library. Comprehensive style guides such as the
Chicago Manual of Style usually contain a good "primer" on indexing.
That's where I learned the basics, to be followed up by additional
reading later.
Have a look at the "American Society of Indexers" Web site; they've got
a bunch of useful resources there
(http://www.asindexing.org/site/asires.shtml), and a pointer to special
interest groups and chapters where you can go to ask specific questions
and perhaps even get some mentoring.
