Reminds me of a story my mother tells me about her university days.

In this case, a student had purchased an essay somewhere and submitted it claiming it as his own.

Prior to handing the essays back, the professor commented there was one exceptionally good essay that really desrved a nine. At the time, the university used a nine point grading system where a nine was the highest possible mark and a one was the lowest. The professor went on to say that he'd given the student a one because the essay was one he'd written himself twenty years before.

| Well, I once interviewed a candidate who included in his work history a

| company I had previously worked for. When the time came to look at his
| portfolio, he pulled out a document from that company, and...yeah, you
| guessed it, it was my work. I'd say that qualified as a "red flag."

When I was still programming, I interviewed a programmer who used sample
code supplied by the maker of an imaging API as his own. Unhappily for
him, I had just been working with the API that morning, and recognized
the code instantly.
