Yes, if you are maintaining it and want to be sure that it can be
read/edited/worked on by others, clean and commented code.
I guess my problem is with the word "ugly". Word does produce HTML with
a lot of crufty stuff in it, but I wouldn't call it ugly. It is just a
lot of tags and directives to make the HTML document readable back into
Word. That to me is the biggest argument against using Word as an HTML
editor--either you're writing HTML for the web or your writing a DOC for
different delivery. Pick one.
However, it DOES validate, so in that sense it is "good" HTML.
Aside....interesting that some of the folks here arguing for adherence
to styles, standards, and what not have personal sites that don't
validate.
