A lawyer story: I was uncomfortable with the practice
of crediting writers where I worked, because I was
editor/manager and (a) I was afraid writers would be
less eager to help one another out if it meant spending
time enhancing another writer's credits at the expense
of one's own, and (b) where the hell was my recognition
as editor?

Anyway, along came the lawyer and forbade us to credit
the writers because any writer who left and whose work
was subsequently revised could sue us for (a) implying
that credit for the fine original writing belonged to
the revising writer, or (b) implying that blame for the
lousy revision belonged to the original writer, or
(c) both.
