G'day Steve,

Your suggested model is in use at the MS MVP site. I can assure you that
even with a community as dedicated and long-lasting as the MVPs, they are
struggling to keep their site updated and they do not have to manage the
mailing list at all.

As volunteers, time comes in spits and spurts which does not suit the
constant care and attention required from a top class site.

So, even if someone was to wave the hand for each required job, would they
still be doing it in 12 months?

Steve Hudson

It looks like TECHWR-L would be breaking even if not for the perceived need
to hire replacements for the irreplaceable Rays. What this forum needs is a
classic volunteer effort. A managing editor could solicit articles to keep
the content coming, and an ad manager could solicit ads to maintain the
revenue stream.

Unfortunately, the initial spate of responses to Eric's announcement (we
could move TECHWR-L anywhere, just as long as it doesn't fall into the
clutches of--yuck!--STC) has had the effect of driving away most of the
folks in the STC community, including those who would have both the means
and the motivation to help keep TECHWR-L going. It kept me from responding
for the last week...

If we consider how to maintain this resource without excluding a large and
active segment of the population, we can find a better solution.
