Your local library may subscribe to a database which includes such
information. For example, my local library provides free access to the
infoUSA Business Database, which is searchable by yellow page heading
and SIC code, and lists the number of employees and estimated sales.

There are likely to be some limitations with this approach. For
example:
* You might need to get a library card.
* The database might only be accessible from within the library.
* You might need to agree to terms of use which limit your usage
to noncommercial use, and which prohibit you from giving the
data to a third party.
* Companies are listed only by their primary business.

If you're doing marketing, this probably isn't the way to go. But if
you need your list for a job search, it's great.

If you need this information for commercial use, one place to find
companies that sell business databases is in the pages of American
Demographics magazine (which is probably on the shelves at your local
public library).
