STC expenses from 2003:

Conference: $502,818
Headquarters Operations: $1,408,373
Publications: $587,615
Chapter Rebates: $571,793
General Operating Expenses: $263,811
Committees: $180,468
Scholarships, Awards, and Grants: $38,737

P.S.: I guess ditching the treeware mags won't lower our dues much as we
thought.

OK, that's half of the equation. What's the conference income? How many people would disagree with the assertion that the conference should be self-sufficient?

I'm no facilities manager, but that operations figure sounds extravagant.

Again, possibly from a lack of understanding, but what to committees need money for separate from general operating expenses?

If I could get to the annual report PDF without FireFox hanging, I could get an idea of income, but figure 25,000 member times $140/year in dues is $3.5 million, minus the half mil they give back to chapters, minus the (unknown fraction of) members who are student menbers, and I'd ballpark $2.0-2.5 million in membership revenue. The doens't count SIG memberships or seminar fees. There are probably not insignificant journal subscription rates charges to libraries and universities.

So here's a bootm-line question: what percentage of dues goes to helping users/mambers meet their goals?
