"Variables" is not an option in the List of References dialog. I had tried
"Text Inset" as the referent, but that didn't work. If someone knows a way
to generate this list, please post. I have FM 7.1.

Another way of generating it is this simple 4-step procedure:

1. Start a blank document that has no variables except $pagenum etc.
I always keep a totally stripped-down template for such purposes
(no catalogs, no x-refs, no variables, etc.)

2. Import Variables from the document you're interested in.

3. Save new doc in Maker Interchange Format.

4. Open MIF file in text editor and extract the section that defines the
variables.

The text file is a little hard to read, but it provides the information.
