In addition to the Word resources that Janet Swisher lists, I'll mention my "Intermediate Word Workshop." It focuses on the kinds of things mentioned or implied in Joel Konkle-Parker's original posting: paragraph styles, table of contents, index, and smart use of Word options. I tried to take a fairly simple and practical approach, and I realize that some of my recommendations won't appeal to Word "purists" or advanced users; however, I aimed for things I thought would work and "stick" with my technical writing students (I teach part-time at Northeastern University) and with "general" users.

The "workshop" is a set of files packaged in a single ZIP file. The workshop could be self-administered, or it could be delivered as an instructor-led workshop. In either case, depending on how many of the modules you did, how familiar you already were with Word, and how much practice you included, the time required could range from one to three or more hours, with maybe 2.5 hours for a capable Word user to do everything pretty thoroughly.

To get this file, go to http://blackboard.neu.edu and log in as username = schmoe and password = joe; click Chuck Murray's Tech Writing Courses; click Course Documents; click the "Intermediate Word Workshop" link, and follow the instructions for the word_workshop.zip file. (It contains a README.txt file with more detailed instructions.)
