A colleague of my father's (both psychiatrists) posed the idea to me
that obsessive behavior was probably really useful to people living in
northern climes who had to be prepared in October for things that might
happen in February (in the depth of winter when resources weren't
readily accessible). Don't know how much merit the idea holds, but it
does make a bit of sense.
