I might go through a UM for an app I had never used before front
to back prior to installing it, but if I did I'd be skimming and wouldn't
retain very much. Once it's up and running, I'd be looking in the TOC
and index for specific subjects. I would neither read it intently through
nor want to wade through a lot of background information about "how
I got there," but would want to know how to get where I want to be
*from* where I am. I vote for (oh, look, a butterfly) crossreferences.

Hi, guys...I'm having a discussion with someone at my company, and
unfortunately, he's several layers above me in the company pecking
order, so I have to be careful how I approach this with him.
