It's quite a bit different than GIMP. GIMP works with bitmaps and is a
Photoshop type of product. Expression works with vector elements, and
is much more like Illustrator. Forgive me if you know all of this,
but...

In a vector-based program, each line, curved object, geometrical object,
typographical object, etc. can be individually moved, resized, cloned,
edited for size, shape, fill, curve points, etc. It is an "object
oriented" drawing package. Such packages are usually much more
efficient in building illustrations and re-using parts of illustrations.
What makes Expression very special is that it can emulate artistic media
that are normally done "by hand," as well as what you might expect from
high-end illustration software.

For a better description, compare the Illustrator and Photoshop packages
on the Adobe site. I'm a confirmed GIMP user, but it's too inefficient
to use for the bulk of my illustrating. It's better at working with
photos or screen snapshots.

My take on the passport issue is that it's a "red herring." Most MSDN
subscribers have one already, I should think.
