Ned asks the following:

Do you have any time to brief me on what the Frame development
environment is like now? I am curious whether or not
high-level/scripting languages supported?

The FDK is now free of charge, on the Adobe web site. You also purchase FrameScript, which is a special scripting language that wraps the FDK.
You can also purchase FrameAC, which is a VisualBasic wrapper for the FDK - FrameAC gives you all the advantages of the FDK plus the advantages of VB such as database connectivity built into the language, or VB for applications like Excel. I created a FrameMaker link to a bibliography database with something rediculous like 10 lines of code. I also created an Excel macro that plunks selected cells from Excel into Maker as a table - also a rediculously small amount of code. FrameAC also includes an environment for creating "macros" in your Maker session via JavaScript or VBScript. DISCLAIMER - FrameAC is made by Mekon Ltd., and I am a representative.
BTW, I suggest you go to the FrameUsers list to deal with these tool-specific issues...
