TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I just recently signed on to this list after signing off about a year ago.
If Google can be believed, I have been a member off and on since 1995.
It seems I came in at nearly the exact place I left. Many of the same
issues are being hacked at ad nauseum. And the same profound uneasiness
about Technical writing as a profession--about the perceived lack of
respect for "us" as "professionals".
I did not respond to take the survey because I am not a manager. But
folks, why respond at all if you're just going to be nasty to/dismissive
of the person who asked you to take it? If you (and by "you" I mean all
you TWers out there) want to be taken seriously as professionals, then why
don't you ACT like it? Be polite. Be pleasant. Be helpful. Don't whine. Be
willing to learn new things. And if you can't be/do any of those things,
then shut up and go back to work (an excellent way to prove your value to
the company, BTW, is getting your work done on time and well with a
minimum of whining. It's worked for me so far, anyway).
